- Timber traders and traffickers
- Charcoal producers,
- Cattle ranchers
- Government neglect
- Bad use (local communities)
All them causes a great lost of Palo Santo Forest throughout Ecuador. Manabi, Santa Elena, Loja provinces where the Bursera Graveolens used to grow easily.
The palo santo forest was badly damaged by timber traffickers who sold it to make charcoal and heat industrial ovens in the area. The felled trees could not regenerate and new trees could not born.
On the other hand a lot of people owned cattle which were free and ate the baby plants being devastating for the forest.
Our beloved master and teacher Dante Bolcato an Italian traveler and freedom searcher found this situation and was very upset and sad from all this; so he decided to work and try to revert all the damage, that time it seemed to be impossible due to all the cultural and political factors.
Dante Bolcato started the Project ¨Delta Tau Palo Santo¨ for protecting and reforesting the Palo Santo Forest.
After years of hard working on the forest as well as with the communities more people and Organizations joined to this task, ONG, Universities, travelers, government wanted to help, nowadays the situation is much better but we will never stop of protecting the Palo Santo Forest.
On January 2021 we conduced an investigation within the Palo Santo Forest and we could observe that new plants were born naturally, it means the Forest is returning to its natural state. Regeneration of Palo Santo in Puerto Lopez.
